About Us

Welcome from the Principal

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Waterfront UTC. I am delighted to lead a fantastic team of staff, working alongside ambitious and hardworking students and supported by our parents, carers and wider community.

Waterfront UTC offers a distinctive education for young people aged 13–19. Our specialisms in Engineering and Construction sit alongside a strong academic curriculum, giving students the knowledge, skills and experiences they need to succeed at school and prepare confidently for their next steps.

We have high expectations of our students and encourage them to develop the independence and responsibility they will need beyond school. Our professional dress code and working environment reflect this, as do our PIER values: Professional, Inquisitive, Engaged and Resilient. These values shape how we learn, work and conduct ourselves as a community.

At Waterfront, we do things differently. We combine a strong academic education with specialised technical learning, giving our students the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills both in the classroom and through practical application. Alongside English, Maths and Science, students can study subjects including Engineering, Construction, Business Studies, Computer Science and Design Technology. This combination means that students benefit from a broad education while developing particular strengths and interests that can help shape their future.

We are a school for thinkers, makers and problem-solvers. Our students have opportunities to design, build, code and create, using specialist facilities and industry-standard equipment to apply to their learning. Our close links with employers bring another dimension to our student's education, helping them to understand how their learning connects to the world beyond school.

We are fortunate to be based in a purpose-built facility at the heart of the Chatham Waters redevelopment area. Students travel to us from across Medway and Kent, including Whitstable, Faversham, Sittingbourne and Maidstone, choosing Waterfront because of the distinctive opportunities and pathways we offer.

We are proud of our students' achievements and of the destinations they secure when they leave us. Whether progressing to further or higher education, apprenticeships or employment, our aim is for every young person to leave Waterfront with the qualifications, confidence and skills to take their next step successfully.

If you would like to find out more about Waterfront UTC, please get in touch. We would be delighted to arrange a tour during the school day so that you can meet us, see the school in action and experience for yourself what makes Waterfront different.
