Year 9 Orienteering Competition – Thursday 30th April
Thursday 30th April marked our return to the annual Year 9 Orienteering Competition, hosted by Saxon’s Orienteering Sports Club at Capstone Country Park. With the sun shining and perfect conditions for outdoor activity, pupils enjoyed a brilliant day developing their teamwork, resilience and map‑reading skills.
Travelling in style on our new school minibus added to the excitement, and many pupils were delighted to see familiar faces from other schools on arrival. This event forms part of our School Games Offer and supports the Healthy Me strand, encouraging young people to build cooperation, leadership and positive lifestyle habits.
Working in pairs, pupils navigated two challenging courses — the first 1.2km and the second 1.9km. Their times were combined to determine the winning pairs for each category. Our fastest duo completed both courses in an impressive 31 minutes.
Every pupil represented the school superbly, showing excellent behaviour, determination and enthusiasm throughout the day. Many commented that they would love the opportunity to take part in orienteering again.
Saxon’s Orienteering Sports Club run events throughout the year, so if you’re interested in giving orienteering a try, you can find out more by searching for their club online.
