Our First Ever Orienteering Event

On Thursday 15th May, Waterfront UTC marked another exciting milestone by attending our first ever orienteering event. This was part of the 'Healthy Me' School Games criteria and was brilliantly organised by Saxon Orienteering Club in collaboration with the School Games Team.

In keeping with our inclusive approach to health and wellbeing, we were proud to take eight pupils who had never previously represented the school. Their enthusiasm and conduct were outstanding, and they were a real credit to our community.

The event took place at Capstone Park, a much larger area than anticipated. Each student was challenged to complete two courses in the shortest time possible, learning to navigate using maps and checkpoints. This tested their teamwork, resilience, and determination.

For a first attempt, our pupils performed exceptionally well. While we didn’t place, the effort and enthusiasm were remarkable, and valuable new skills were gained. A special mention goes to Mishel and Zoe, who started one of the courses last but impressively finished second—an incredible achievement!

Saxon Orienteering Club also runs free events for families. If you’re interested in trying orienteering, visit their website: www.saxons-oc.org.

Well done to everyone involved, and thank you for your effort and continued professional behaviour while representing our school.
