⚽️ Strood Academy v Waterfront UTC

Year 10 started their league campaign Monday and knew they started with tough opponents Strood. The game was some of the best football I have seen in a long time from both sides and it was end-to-end action. Just before half-time I found myself thinking I need to tell the lads to be more creative when attacking. As I was thinking this WUTC knocked the ball around Strood into Sam's feet as he stepped over the ball, beat a player then blasted it into the top corner from outside the box.... WHAT A GOAL 1-0!!! At half-time I was amazed at the quality of football being played and said we would need to work hard as unfortunately 3 players were unable to make the game and we knew with the brilliance we were putting in it was going to be difficult to maintain.

Second half kicked off and the tempo was there. Alex ran down a loose ball just beating the keeper to it and BOOM 2-0 WUTC!!! The game continued to be end-to-end action and full credit to a new back four and the three in the middle who battled all game. Legs started to get tired and 5minutes before the end a long ball to Strood no defenders near... Oh no... 2-1! We had to hold out.... the referee made it clear '4 minutes to go' the game was still ours for the taking a missed shot time to reset. Referee made it clear again '1 minute to go' Strood lump the ball up the field their striker and our defender both trying to get to it but too handsy and the dreaded whistle.... PENALTY to Strood! All hope now lies with James to save this penalty it is likely to be the last kick of the game. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo... Goal to Strood. Final score 2-2.

Despite feeling awful we didn't get the win it was by far the best team performance and individual performance of many. I am excited for future games if this is now how we are playing especially as those who couldn't make it today are hopefully back next game. Team vote for Man of the Match was Aidan who was solid the entire game at centre back. If I am honest nearly every player on the pitch today could have got man of the match. Love the effort today gents keep that for the next game.
